Spider Control in Southeast Michigan
Interior and exterior spider treatment for the fall spider season
Fall is when Michigan homeowners see the most spiders, because many spiders wander in search of mates and follow their prey toward warm houses as nights turn cold. BTR handles spider control through its General Pest Control service, treating the inside, the outside, or both. Spider control is covered by BTR's 90-day warranty.
Why You See More Spiders in Fall
Two things happen at once. Many spiders reach adulthood in late summer, and the males leave their webs to search for females, which brings them across floors and up walls where people notice them. At the same time, cooling weather pushes flies, gnats and other small insects toward the warmth around doors, windows and foundations, and spiders follow the food. Outdoor lights make it worse, because they pull insects to the exact spots where spiders slip inside.
Common Spiders in Michigan Homes
American House Spider
Parasteatoda tepidariorum. Small and brown, it builds messy cobwebs in corners, windows, closets and basements.
Cellar Spider
Very long, thin legs and loose webs in basement and ceiling corners, often in damp areas.
Wolf Spider
Large, hairy and fast. It hunts on the ground without a web and turns up in basements and garages in fall.
Jumping Spider
Small and compact with large front eyes. It hops rather than runs and is often seen on sunny window sills.
Signs It Is Time for Spider Control
- Webs come back in the same corners within a few days of being cleared.
- You find egg sacs, small round balls of silk, in corners, garages, basements or window frames.
- Spiders keep appearing in the basement, the garage, or under furniture.
- Heavy webbing builds up around outdoor lights, eaves and window frames.
How BTR Spider Control Works
- Inspection. A technician finds the entry points and the places spiders and their prey are sheltering.
- Exterior perimeter treatment. The foundation, garage door thresholds, eaves, landscape beds and common entry points are treated to stop spiders from moving in.
- Interior treatment. Targeted applications go into cracks, crevices and baseboards where spiders hide.
- Prevention advice. You get specific tips for your home so fewer spiders come back.
Spider control is delivered through BTR's General Pest Control service. BTR uses EPA-approved products and never treats pollinating plants, to help protect bees and butterflies. The 90-Day Warranty on Spider Control
Spider control is one of the services BTR lists under its 90-day warranty. Give the treatment 30 days to work through the spider population. If spiders are still active inside the 90-day window, BTR comes back and retreats at no extra cost. The full terms are on the warranty page.
Fall Spider Prevention Tips
- Seal gaps around windows, doors, dryer vents and utility lines, and fit door sweeps and garage door seals.
- Move firewood, leaf piles and thick mulch away from the foundation.
- Use yellow bug lights outdoors, or keep porch lights off when you do not need them.
- Cut down clutter in basements and garages, and store items in sealed bins rather than cardboard boxes.
- Vacuum webs and egg sacs regularly, then empty the vacuum outside.
Fall also brings boxelder bugs, brown marmorated stink bugs and mice to the same gaps. The fall pest-proofing checklist covers all of them.
Spider Control Questions and Answers
Why are there so many spiders in my house in the fall?
Mature male spiders wander in late summer and fall looking for mates, and many of them end up inside. Cooler nights also draw the insects that spiders hunt toward the warmth of the house. Sealing gaps and cutting back outdoor lighting near doors reduces both.
Does BTR treat inside and outside for spiders?
Yes. Spider control is part of BTR's General Pest Control service, which can be booked for the interior, the exterior, or both. Exterior work focuses on the foundation and entry points, and interior work targets cracks, crevices and baseboards.
Is spider control covered by a warranty?
Yes. Spider control is one of the services covered by BTR's 90-day warranty. Wait 30 days after the first treatment, and if spiders are still active within the 90 days, BTR returns and retreats at no extra cost.
How can I keep spiders out of my basement?
Seal gaps around basement windows, dryer vents and pipes, and keep stored items off the floor in sealed bins. Vacuum webs and egg sacs often. Lowering humidity also helps, because damp basements attract the small insects spiders feed on.
When is the best time to schedule spider control in Michigan?
Late summer and early fall, before spiders and the insects they eat move indoors for the winter. If spiders are already inside, booking both interior and exterior treatment addresses the spiders you see and the gaps they are using.
